Solar Pool Heating

Belmont Council and Belgravia Leisure have worked together to facilitate a large solar heating project for Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre sufficient to heat the water in the main 50m, lagoon and outdoor 25m pools.

The estimated $270,000 project shows the Oasis' commitment to environmental concerns and reducing the carbon footprint of the Recreation Centre.  “The installation of a solar pool heating system at Belmont Oasis will have a significant impact on reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions associated with water heating,” Mayor Godfrey said. “The solar pool heating system is anticipated to reduce gas usage by 50% over a 12 month period"

It is envisaged that a proportion of cost savings associated with the reduction in gas usage will be reinvested into future energy and water saving initiatives at Belmont Oasis, further benefiting the environment.

The solar panels installed at Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre will provide average temperatures sufficient for the gas heater to be turned off on most days over a four month period while also reducing gas usage during the remaining eight months of the year.
